Senate Dems Call for More Boycotts of Wisconsin Employers
[Madison, WI…] The Committee to Elect a Republican Senate (CERS) reacted today to Senator Lena Taylor’s (D-Milwaukee) call for more boycotts of Wisconsin-made products. Taylor released a statement via Twitter urging the public to not buy certain items produced by Georgia Pacific, whose facility in Green Bay employs roughly 1,800 area residents.
“While Senate Republicans have renewed their focus on economic recovery and job creation, Senate Democrats have renewed their focus on attacking Wisconsin employers for political reasons,” stated Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, chairman of CERS.
“Senate Republicans have passed over a dozen job-creation bills this year, balanced the state budget without raising taxes, and helped school districts and municipalities get their budgets under control, preventing mass layoffs all over the state.”
“If Senate Democrats spent as much time working on job creation as they do trying to organize protests, boycotts, and recalls, we would be moving towards recovery even faster than we are now. “
Last Spring, Democrat groups and union protesters called for a boycott of the Kwik Trip gas station chain, and threatened businesses in Union Grove (Racine County) if they refused to display pro-union signs in their windows. Kwik Trip, Inc. is headquartered in La Crosse, which is represented by Senator Jen Shilling, and Georgia Pacific’s facility lies in Senator Dave Hansen’s (D-Green Bay) district.
“It’s time Senate Democrats put jobs first and politics second,” added Fitzgerald. “Senators Dave Hansen and Jen Shilling must publically denounce Lena Taylor’s misguided, politically-charged rallying cry to kill Wisconsin jobs. I call on Hansen and Shilling to show solidarity with their constituents who are in need of good-paying jobs, rather than their colleagues who are doing their best to hinder economic recovery efforts.”
